Our Story

The Vineyard at StockcrossThe Vineyard at Stockcross takes its name and inspiration from owner, Sir Peter Michael’s world class winery in the mountainous landscape of Northern California. Once an 18th Century Hunting Lodge, The Vineyard at Stockcross is now an inviting wine hotel in the heart of Royal Berkshire.

We love everything about wine and have a cellar full of rare, exciting and delicious wines from all over the world. We’re up to about 23,000 bottles and the list is continually growing! All 49 rooms and suites are even named after iconic wines from around the globe. Since opening, we have hosted a multitude of successful wine dinners, held lively wine fairs and wine schools and now offer a collection of special wine related offers every night of the week – Seven Days of Wine.

Yohann Jousselin MS is currently our Head Sommelier and UK Sommelier of the Year 2011, and has a wealth of wine knowledge that he loves to share with staff and guests alike. Next time you dine with us, chat with our wine team and tell them what you like and look for in a wine and they’ll select the perfect glass or bottle for you to enjoy.

Awarded Relais Chateaux Worldwide Rising Chef 2011, Daniel Galmiche joined The Vineyard at Stockcross as Executive Head Chef in 2009 and continues to create wonderfully interesting dishes that are bursting with flavour. Daniel and Yohann work closely together to match the perfect glass of wine with each delicious dish.

As well as a true wine lover, Sir Peter Michael is also an enthusiastic patron of the arts, believing that music, painting and sculpture enrich the world we live in. As soon as he purchased The Vineyard at Stockcross, he began to adorn the walls of the restaurant, suites and hallways with his impressive art collection. The art collection (known as The Michael Collection) as a whole is diverse in character, and has something for everyone. Tours are available on request. Find out more
