Katherine Palmers-Needham After completion of a Foundation Course at Amersham College of Further Education, Katherine studied Fine Art at Bath College attaining a BA (Hons) in 1994. From there her studies took her to Chelsea College of Art and in 2003 she was awarded a BA (Hons) Theory and Practise in Visual Arts (First Class).
Over the last three years she has exhibited regularly in group shows in both inner and outer London at occasions such as the Battersea Art Fair, the Business Design Centre and Will’s Art Warehouse. Other venues have been the Glasgow Art Fair, the Wet Paint Gallery, Cirencester and the Bristol Art Fair. In 2003 her work was included in the Degree Show at Chelsea College of Art and, so far this year, at the Battersea Art Fair and in a group exhibition at the OXO Tower. The installation at The Vineyard at Stockcross of twenty eight, twelve inch square, painted panels, set into stainless steel frame, comprises her first major commission.
Katherine lives in London and works for part of the week with a firm of architects. She says of her work:-
“It is about the process of creating a painting: my engagement with my materials, the beauty of colour, the layering of mark making and a study into the passage of time through the history of making a painting. Chance occurrences that happen while painting, the traces of lines and marks, the freedom of brushstrokes and the random blurring of paint – all these elements work alongside the considered placement of colour and are contributory factors. I aim to achieve balance, depth and surface texture to realise work that is rich and exciting.”
