Winter Skincare

FacialWith light fading sooner and colder nights it seems the great summer we have had may be drawing to a close. The change in weather can also signify a change in your skin caused by freezing temperatures, low humidity and heating, that can in some people cause their skin to become dry, red and itchy.

Dry skin can be treated by ensuring you are applying your cream morning to protect the skin from the harsh environment and at night to replenish. This is a good time of year to boost your night time cream by applying a couple of drops of a face oil on your skin before applying your cream, not forgetting as well that your skin is most active at 2am when it does its most repairing and rejuvenating so the more nourishment you give your skin at night time the better your skin will be. It is also important to keep your skin hydrated which is harder in winter as we tend to stick to hot drinks but having warm squash is a good way to keep your fluids up. A bowl of water by your radiator can also help to raise the humidity in the room.

For those of you whose skin tends to be red and itchy the best way to treat it is to wrap up as much as you can, wear a scarf and hat and use a skincare range designed for sensitive skin. Darphin’s Intral range has helped a lot of people and we would recommend using both the serum to help soothe and restructure skin deep down along with either the soothing cream if skin is itchy or redness relief cream for skin that is red. Our Darphin Extreme Hydration Facial is perfect for quenching dehydrated skin.

In our skincare we also must not forget our spf as even though you cant see the sun it is still there and as UV rays are a major contributor to skin ageing every little bit helps to slow it down. You can either get your spf protection from your cream such as Darphin’s Melaperfect Cream or from your foundation. I would recommend having an spf of at least 15.

Often forgotten, our poor hands can really suffer in winter, so now is the time to invest in a good warm pair of gloves and then make sure you are using them whenever you are going outside into the cold. Apply hand cream as often as you can. Treating your hands to a deluxe manicure where your hand will be wrapped in paraffin wax where the heat warms and soothes joints while the skin is deeply nourished.

Lastly on cold winter days and nights our spa is the perfect place to curl up and enjoy the warmth relaxing at your lounger with a cup of tea or soaking in the Jacuzzi or enjoying the deep heat of our steam and sauna room. If this sounds tempting check out our full range of spa days and spa evenings.

Helpful make-up tips

If you’re looking to update your make up look, here are two easy ways:

Crayon Khol Pencil 1Apply make up shades and tones that you are comfortable using then add a little ‘oomph’ to your eyes with a new shade of eyeliner, such as blue or green, close to the lower lash line for an updated look.

If the idea of bright lipsticks scares you, (even though you think they will look great), try   applying your everyday choice of colour then layer a red or hot pink on top. You’ll love the result it gives you, and it’s very easy to do at home on yourself.

Detox this January

Spa image - treatment - compressed

After indulging over the Christmas period many of us look to undo this with what is termed as de-toxing. The simple truth of the matter is that the body is very good at de-toxing itself and many of our organs, such as the liver and kidneys, have this as part of their role. Even the skin has a role in detoxing through the sweating process. What we can do for an easy de-tox is to aid the body in what it does naturally. Here are some great tips to help you do this:

Drink 1.5 litres of water a day
Water is great not only for hydrating the skin, but also helps the body to flush out toxins. Take care not to drink excessive amounts of water as this can also cause the body harm.

Reduce alcohol consumption or have a tee total period
Pure alcohol is a toxin to the body, and yes while there has been some research saying alcohol can have some health benefits, it still needs to be broken down by the liver, which means that other normal processes that the liver undertakes may be slowed down such as processing fat, eliminating waste and metabolising carbohydrates.

Undertake regular exercise
This can be anything from walking, jogging and dancing round the room to music. Basically anything that gets your heart rate up and makes you feel a little warm, and even better a little sweaty. The heart pumping faster increases the circulation improving the movement of toxins to the liver and kidneys for their removal. Sweat carries toxins out of the body and flushes them through the pores.  The sauna and steam room is also a good way of doing this, but exercise is still better due to other health benefits . It’s always a good idea to make sure you check with your doctor before starting any kind of exercise programme.

Eat a wide variety of foods and cut out the junk food
This doesn’t mean go on a diet, but just give your body a wide variety of nutrients from a range of food. Many vitamins and minerals are needed by your body to work efficiently, and this includes those organs involved in the de-tox process such as the liver.

If you want that pampering experience mixed with the feel good factor of doing something to de-tox, here are some treatments we recommend.

  • Darphin Slim and Detox Treatment  – 1hr 25 mins
  • Darphin Personalised Refining Body Polish – 55 mins

Silky Skin for Summer

Silky Skin for Summer

Ladies, want to have perfect, hydrated, silky skin for summer? Then try these quick and easy steps using my favourite Darphin body products.

Step 1: Use Darphin’s Perfecting Body Scrub to incredibly transform your skin by polishing the surface, eliminating dead skin cells and refining the skins texture, with apricot seeds and chestnut flakes, leaving the skin feeling incredibly soft and smooth ready to be hydrated. You should apply a generous amount on to a damp skin for a more intense exfoliation. Massage in, paying special attention to the rough areas. You will be pleasantly surprised with its rich, creamy texture transforming into a delightful emulsion upon contact with water.

Step 2: Cleanse and revitalise your skin with Darphin Aromatic Seaweed Bath and Shower Gel. It is enriched with an enticing bouquet blend of six essential oils and detoxifying algae extract, leaving your skin dewy fresh, soft and deliciously scented.

Step 3: Use Darphin Silky Moisturizing Lotion with hyaluronic acid and Darphin’s unique hydrastructure technology providing the skin with long lasting intense hydration, visibly improving skin texture that absorbs fast into the skin leaving a luxurious peachy feminine scent. The long lasting hydration immediately comforts and softens your skin. To rediscover the beauty of your skin, when applying the silky lotion always use upwards strokes. The light texture is quickly absorbed, allowing you to dress immediately after application.

We have a range of Darphin treatments from facials to massages, so why not spoil yourself with a treatment from our extensive range? – view treatments.
