HISTORY

Read the The Good Hotel Guide review

The property now known as The Vineyard at Stockcross, was originally an 18th Century Hunting lodge owned by the Foley family who were local 'lords of the manor' and owned estate lands around Speen, Boxford, Stockcross and Donnington.

The last Foley (Thomas) died in 1748 and the land was then passed down the female line of the family before being sold to Rev. Which Henry Howard Hartley in the mid 19th Century.

The lodge was later owned by the Sutton Estate then rented out and by the 1960's it was occupied as several flats.

In 1969 Foley Lodge was purchased by Mr Shevki who set about converting the property into a restaurant and banqueting centre.

Eight years later, Mr Shevki sold Foley Lodge to Victor Pond who later opened the Foley Lodge Hotel in 1978.

The present owner, Sir Peter Michael acquired Foley Lodge Hotel in 1996 and after extensive refurbishment The Vineyard at Stockcross opened in March 1998.

In 2004 the hotel added a further 18 to its 31 rooms in response to an increase in demand since opening just 5 years ago.

The luxurious Atrium Suites are on split-level and offer stylish, modern fabrics and contemporary design.

The final phase of The Vineyard at Stockcross, owned by Sir Peter Michael, follows on from the hotel in Newbury, Berkshire, winning a stream of accolades including 5 red stars, four AA rosettes, 2 Michelin stars, 8/10 in the Good Food Guide all culminating in a Catey Award for the Best Independent Hotel in the UK.
