When Larry and MaryAnn started Moone-Tsai wines in 2003, they created their label with the dream of making rare and remarkable wines bearing the finest fruit from Napa Valley's most heralded vineyards.
Guided by this vision, and with Howell Mountain beckoning, Moone-Tsai launched its distinctive, limited production Cabernets, Chardonnays, and Bordeaux blends - among them, Moone-Tsai's landmark Howell Mountain Hillside Blend.
Cor Leonis is made 100% from Cabernet Sauvignon grown in some of the best vineyards in the Napa Valley: St Helena, Coombsville’s Caldwell Vineyard Block 15 and Oakville’s legendary Beckstoffer’s To Kalon.
The wine was made by French winemaker Philippe Melka (from Château Haut-Brion and Petrus) and has been aged in new French oak (75%) for 24 months.
The wine is deep with seductive notes of cassis and baked blueberry, the nose displays elegant flavours of dry herbs, mocha and violet.
The palate is dense and concentrated but remains elegant with supple tannins and great complexity, length and balance.
An iron fist in a velvet glove that pairs amazingly well with our lamb course.
